CALL DOWN THE SYSTEMS AND THE RANKS 6:29 On the strength of its single, "To Unleash the Horses Now," with its indie rock riffs and progression from rhythmic, folk-style narrative to squelching, fuzz-laden rant, Distance and Clime keeps up with Centro-Matic's succession of strong releases. Lines like "on the cusp of magnificence" and "no options left to lose" create a cyclical feel that winds down with a stubbornly grasped bit of distortion. The rest of the album isn't quite as radio-friendly, which isn't a bad thing. Centro-Matic holds on to its Texas-style alt-rock roots, but there are enough hooks here, and even a couple of velvety ballads, to keep new converts listening. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 031 CHMSKY ONWARD QUIRKY SOLDIERS CD .2001 1 Straight Razor 4:06 2 Inside 4:55 3 00:15:00 4:05 4 Gravitate 4:10 5 Light 3:52 6 Believe 3:55 7 Herod's Daughter 4:39 8 Destination 4:02 9 Laughing 5:20 10 Up 4:47 11 Rollers 5:50 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 032 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 033 MACAVITY FALLING HARD IN THE KEY OF E CD .2002 1 Another Try at Something New 4:02 2 Floating......... 5:14 3 It's Okay to Say Goodbye 3:47 4 Trapped by Design 6:59 5 Rockets In The Stack 3:59 6 Goodnight, Sweet Dreams 8:04 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 034 THE DEATHRAY DAVIES THE DAY OF THE RAY CD 02.2002 1 Is This On? 2:08 2 I'm From The Future 3:10 3 Don't Point At The Stoners 1:14 4 Persuasive Is Your Name 2:10 5 She Can Play Me Like A Drum Machine 3:02 6 The Aztec God 2:24 7 Her First Party 2:42 8 The Medication's Gone 4:14 9 Spinecracker 1:19 10 Starting To Stop 2:45 11 Pulling Teeth 2:36 12 They Stuck Me In A Box In The Ground Pt. 4 2:59 13 It's Hard To Run Uphill On Stilts 6:36 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 035 CENTRO-MATIC : VOL.1-THE STATIC VS. KEEP THE PHOENIX IN SLOW MOTION 3:26 Centro-Matic's aptly named The Static Vs. the Strings, Vol. 1 collects rarities, outtakes, and B-sides dating back to 1996, contrasting their chugging, fuzzed-out power pop with melancholy, countrified ballads. What holds their divergent tendencies together is the group's somewhat shambling but confident approach and the appealingly scruffy production, which balances their muscular sound with their skillful melodies and harmonies. At their revved-up best, Centro-Matic is downright infectious and slightly quirky, particularly on songs like the sprightly "Neighbors. Habits. Downtown," the driving "D. Boon-Free (A Ninth-Grade Crime)," and especially on The Static Vs. the Strings, Vol. 1's centerpiece, "Turning Your Decisions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 036 CENTRO-MATIC : ALL THE FALSETS HEARTS CAN TRY CD 01.2005 01. AERIAL SPINS / NAUTICAL WILDERNESS 3:22 Will Johnson's straining voice and lyrical surrealism on Centro-Matic's fourth full album elicit comparisons to the psychedelic pop that the Flaming Lips fashioned throughout the 1990s. Borrowing from the Lips' theatrical arrangements on their albums, the tracks on All the Falsest Hearts Can Try overlap thematically, so that the entire album seems to run in a continuous strain of inventively assembled music. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 037 THE FAGS THE FAGS CDEP 03.2003 01. Like the Strokes covering Gary Numan, [DARYL] matches catchy, angular melodies to whining keyboards and Pixies-like song structures ("Duration," "Bottle Rocket"). Touching on everything from the Cars to Echo & the Bunnymen to New Order, the band's self-titled sophomore album burns through nine charged tunes with vocals reminiscent of Joe Strummer, poppy synth melodies, and Neu! atmospheres ("Petition"). Interpol has inherited the legacy of Joy Division and the Chameleons, Radio 4 follows in the footsteps of Gang of Four and Public Image Ltd., and the Faint make retro dance music, but [DARYL] is the band who takes the most pop elements of new wave and somehow makes them into something with the spirit and energy of punk rock. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 039 CHOMSKY GRAVITATE CDEP .2002 01 Gravitate 3:56 02 Policy Of Truth (Acoustic) 3:17 03 Straight Razor (Acoustic) 4:19 04 00:15:00 (Acoustic) 4:17 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 040 V / A VITAL IDOL CD .2003 1 Chomsky 00:15:00 (15 Minutes to Rock) 2 Chomsky Gravitate 3 The Deathray Davies Don't Point at the Stoners 4 The Deathray Davies Persuasive Is Your Name 5 The Fags List 6 The Fags Firecracker 7 [DARYL] Petition 8 [DARYL] Jenny 9 Sponge Treat Me Wrong 10 Sponge Molly (Sixteen Candles) [live] 11 Macavity Flowers for Al-Anon 12 Macavity Rockets in the Stack 13 Centro-matic Huge in Every City 14 Centro-matic On the Sagtikos 15 Watershed Can't Be Myself 16 Watershed Anniversary 17 Clumsy Dumb 18 Molly Girlfriend 19 Kissing Chaos Lost Evidence 20 Gunfighter Thirty Three Teeth 21 Soviet Space A Clearer Picture of Me 22 The Mag Seven Sweet Jam o' Mine --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 041 OLOSPO THIS IS PAGODA CD 01.2003 1 Punchy 5:57 2 Meaty Oprah 6:14 3 William and Aaron 6:42 4 Franks and Beans 7:00 5 Broken 4:59 6 Flapjacks 3:47 7 Dirty Rita 4:39 8 Slither 4:51 9 Step Up 4:23 10 Requiem (Lose My Number) 6:27 11 The Ticket 4:36 12 Back Door Biscuit 7:14 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 042 SPONGE : FOR ALL THE DRUGS IN THE WORLD CD 07.2003 1 Treat Me Wrong 3:51 2 Leave This World 3:48 3 Burn 4:58 4 28 Days 3:41 5 Unpopular Girl 3:32 6 Talk To You 3:42 7 Dandelion's Roar 3:45 8 Love & Roses 4:09 9 Punch In The Nose 3:48 10 Suicide Away 4:18 11 Sanitarium 4:08 12 Lucifer In Las Vegas 5:02 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 043 [DARYL] UNEVEN SURFACES CD .2004 1 Uneven Surfaces 2:49 2 Jenny (alternate version) 3:46 3 Graffiti 0:41 4 Natalie W. 2:20 5 Rooms 31 & 30 (acoustic version) 3:49 6 The Make 3:55 7 Jenny (radio edit) 3:43 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 044 G B H Cruel & Unusual CDEP 10.2004 1 No 2:10 2 I'm On Heat 2:17 3 Last Of The Teenage Idols 4:38 4 Punk Rock Ambulance 3:14 5 3-Piece Suit 2:16 6 Happyville, USA 2:17 7 Freak (Live) 2:01 8 Time Bomb (Live) 2:19 9 Drugs Party In 526 (Live) 2:29 10 Give Me Fire (Live) 3:21 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 045 COLD CASE MACHINE MEMORY OVERDOSE CD 08.2004 Debut album from K's choice guitar player Curt Hines full of Hook filled pop / rock anthems. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 046 PAPER CHASE & WILL JOHNSON : SPLIT 7" 08.2004 A The Paper Chase The Riot Jack 4:06 B Will Johnson I Did A Terrible Thing 7:05 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 047 SKEEMIN' NOGOODS SKEEMIN' NOGOODS CD 10.2004 1 I want Something 2 Politicians 3 Punch the Clock 4 State of Grace 5 Downtown 6 Gimme the Gas 7 Supercharged 8 I Don't Like You 9 Lot to Answer To 10 Little Alex 11 No Ties --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 048 [DARYL] OHIO CD .2004 1 Happy Accidents 3:18 2 Right Now I Could Be A Ghost 2:42 3 Make Up 2:27 4 You Were Way Too Young 2:06 5 Leak In The Media 3:22 6 Rooms 31 & 30 3:16 7 Natasha W. 0:54 8 Ohio 3:06 9 Just Because The Lake Was Frozen Over 1:54 10 Uneven Surfaces 3:02 11 Serious 2:42 12 John McClain 1:12 13 Hours Take Too Long 3:44 14 The Crash That Took Me 3:25 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 049 WATERSHED FIFTH OF JULY CD 02.2005 01. The harmonies are pleasing, the hairpin turns of phrase clever, the hooks insistent, the chord changes both brainy and intuitive. If it wasn't for the cranked amps and the fuzzed out vocals, you'd almost, at times think they were Cheap Trick. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IDOL 058 PPT TRES MONOS IN LOVE 2CD+DVD 01.2007 CD / DVD PPT's music falls somewhere between Stankonia-era Outkast and post-Purple Rain Prince, evenly pleasing the backpacker types and the cats who just want a little heavy funk. His debut album Peel conveys a 4 year journey of trials, tribulations and revelations, Jason's roots of Americana take hold in Peel yet to label it such would be too simplistic. Jason simply states "this album is intended to portray the melting pot that comprises the heart and soul of American Rock & Roll." I FORGOT (PART 2) Debut release from this band led by Dylan Silvers ([DARYL], The Crash That Took Me) Silvers has always had a affinity for analog keyboards, the 77 punk scene, and noisy Pixiesesque / Kevin Shields guitar feedback swirl. Defender 1 blends those 3 key elements seamlessly with simple infused analog beats and repetitious pop hooks. Adding Silvers raw yet melodic vocals to make this unmistakably his own, Silvers wields the early post punk energy of bands like the Police, The Clash, Missing Persons, Joy Division, but is also very influenced by the art and production of Brian Eno's ambient undertones and films such as Tron, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Crow, Batman, The Watchmen, and artists like Alan Moore, Frank Miller, and John Mueller. Going beyond just the music, These Machines Are Winning takes on a full emersion of creative expression combining narrative film making, photography, and graphic art. The goal is to create a mythos that encourages further exploration of the material. Silvers draws lyrically from this concept, teaming up with long time friend Ryan Hartsell To shoot, direct and co-create with Silvers this comic vision. having the first two cinematic videos out of their four part mini series completed for Defender 1, taking their vigilantes to new extremes. ROOM EIGHT Less than a year after their first release, "For You," Dead Flowers were back in the studio working on their sophomore record, "His Blues". Unlike their first record, which maintained a more alt-country-Americana-rock sound, "His Blues" is a full on aggressive, heavy, guitar-assault rock and roll album, matched only by the thunderous rhythm section. Producer Jason Robert Burt brought Dead Flowers to The NEST in Dripping Springs, Texas, for ten days of tracking and mixing through a Wunder console and had one thing in mind: make this album as heavy as possible. While no lyrical emphasis was lost from front man Corey Howe, tracking live and loud was the game plan for this second record. Vince Tuley manned the fuzzed out, octave driven lead guitar. Evan Johnson is behind a 1960's vintage Ampeg B-18N Portaflex and Ed Chaney tuned his drum kit as low as possible for some parts. All of these elements came together to create the low and heavy sophomore LP from Dead Flowers. NO SHELTER Dove Hunter's Black Cloud Erupt Us, their 2nd full length, features a harder edge than their debut The Southern Unknown. Their new stripped down 4 piece lineup take's their unique brand of Texas psychedelia into more cosmic realms than the high plains drift of their debut, evoking the best of Physical Graffiti-era Led Zeppelin and John Fahey, with some of Crazy Horse's darker moments thrown in for good measure. Winning the Dallas Observer Music Award (Best Alternative Band), and being nominated several times in Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards (Best Alt-Country) and (Best Live Rock Band), it seems the press has a hard time pinning down exactly what Dove Hunter is. Their classic rock sensibilities collide with dub backbeat rhythm and winding indie rock guitar patterns, all the while being sweetened by thoughtful, whispered vocals. Their sound has been described as "southern rock Slint" or "Brian Eno produced Allman Brothers". After recording Black Cloud Erupt Us at the Echo Lab in Denton, TX, Dove Hunter will be bringing their exciting live show on tour in 2015. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IR 119 JETTA IN THE GHOST TREE : CLANDESTINE VOL.1 CD 06.2015 1 Clandestine 5:09 2 Nowhere 3:37 3 Carswell 3:35 4 Reaction 3:18 5 Desert Starlight Drive-In 5:16 6 Pontchartrain Eyes 6:00 7 The Belladonna Treatment 4:40 8 Larceny 4:00 9 Silhouette 4:25 10 Down & Out 6:58 From the streets of Fort Worth, Texas, indie psych rock quintet Jetta In The Ghost Tree has emerged with an undeniable mission.
