On the strength of its single, "To Unleash the Horses Now," with its indie rock riffs
and progression from rhythmic, folk-style narrative to squelching, fuzz-laden rant,
Distance and Clime keeps up with Centro-Matic's succession of strong releases. Lines
like "on the cusp of magnificence" and "no options left to lose" create a cyclical
feel that winds down with a stubbornly grasped bit of distortion. The rest of the
album isn't quite as radio-friendly, which isn't a bad thing. Centro-Matic holds on
to its Texas-style alt-rock roots, but there are enough hooks here, and even a couple
of velvety ballads, to keep new converts listening.

Centro-Matic's aptly named The Static Vs. the Strings, Vol. 1 collects rarities,
outtakes, and B-sides dating back to 1996, contrasting their chugging, fuzzed-out
power pop with melancholy, countrified ballads. What holds their divergent tendencies
together is the group's somewhat shambling but confident approach and the appealingly
scruffy production, which balances their muscular sound with their skillful melodies
and harmonies. At their revved-up best, Centro-Matic is downright infectious and
slightly quirky, particularly on songs like the sprightly "Neighbors. Habits.
Downtown," the driving "D. Boon-Free (A Ninth-Grade Crime)," and especially on The

Named for the sleeper '80s movie about a robot boy who learns to have feelings, Texas'
[DARYL] plays some of the hands-down best updates of new wave's synth rock. Like the
Strokes covering Gary Numan, [DARYL] matches catchy, angular melodies to whining
keyboards and Pixies-like song structures ("Duration," "Bottle Rocket"). Touching on
everything from the Cars to Echo & the Bunnymen to New Order, the band's self-titled
sophomore album burns through nine charged tunes with vocals reminiscent of Joe
Strummer, poppy synth melodies, and Neu! atmospheres ("Petition"). Interpol has
inherited the legacy of Joy Division and the Chameleons, Radio 4 follows in the
footsteps of Gang of Four and Public Image Ltd., and the Faint make retro dance music,

There are some elements of snotty indie garage in The Fags' sound - raw edges, loud

Gaston Light is the moniker of 22 year old songwriter Jason Corcoran. A born-and-bred
Texan, Jason left his native Dallas at 18 and headed, as so many young musicians do
to Los Angeles. His debut album Peel conveys a 4 year journey of trials, tribulations
and revelations, Jason's roots of Americana take hold in Peel yet to label it such
would be too simplistic. Jason simply states "this album is intended to portray the

Silvers has always had a affinity for analog keyboards, the 77 punk scene, and noisy

Less than a year after their first release, "For You," Dead Flowers were back in the
studio working on their sophomore record, "His Blues". Unlike their first record,
which maintained a more alt-country-Americana-rock sound, "His Blues" is a full on
aggressive, heavy, guitar-assault rock and roll album, matched only by the thunderous
rhythm section. Producer Jason Robert Burt brought Dead Flowers to The NEST in Dripping
Springs, Texas, for ten days of tracking and mixing through a Wunder console and had
one thing in mind: make this album as heavy as possible. While no lyrical emphasis was
lost from front man Corey Howe, tracking live and loud was the game plan for this
second record. Vince Tuley manned the fuzzed out, octave driven lead guitar. Evan
Johnson is behind a 1960's vintage Ampeg B-18N Portaflex and Ed Chaney tuned his drum
kit as low as possible for some parts. All of these elements came together to create
the low and heavy sophomore LP from Dead Flowers. Ladies and Gentleman: "His Blues".

Dove Hunter's Black Cloud Erupt Us, their 2nd full length, features a harder edge than
their debut The Southern Unknown. Their new stripped down 4 piece lineup take's their
unique brand of Texas psychedelia into more cosmic realms than the high plains drift
of their debut, evoking the best of Physical Graffiti-era Led Zeppelin and John Fahey,
with some of Crazy Horse's darker moments thrown in for good measure. Winning the
Dallas Observer Music Award (Best Alternative Band), and being nominated several times
in Fort Worth Weekly Music Awards (Best Alt-Country) and (Best Live Rock Band), it
seems the press has a hard time pinning down exactly what Dove Hunter is. Their classic
rock sensibilities collide with dub backbeat rhythm and winding indie rock guitar
patterns, all the while being sweetened by thoughtful, whispered vocals. Their sound

From the streets of Fort Worth, Texas, indie psych rock quintet Jetta In The Ghost
Tree has emerged with an undeniable mission. Make good music. Formed by Brandin Lea,
former songwriter and frontman of Flickerstick, and two of his close friends Eric
Webb (guitar, piano, vocals) and Frank Ocampo (bass) in mid 2013 and later acquiring
the talent of Abi Abel (keys, vocals) and Joe Carpenter (percussion), Jetta in the
Ghost Tree has molded their sound into something hauntingly welcoming. Their
atmospheric tones, dreary, poly-harmonic melodies and entertaining live shows earned
them a quick nomination for Best New Artist for the 2014 Fort Worth Weekly Music
Awards. Jetta in the Ghost Tree will be touring in support of their debut album,
Clandestine Vol. I, recorded at producer Taylor Tatsch's (Orbans, Gollay) AudioStyles
